Exception Granted
-by Railroad Commission of Texas
Smart-Hose® Technologies has been granted an exception from the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRCT) LP-Gas Safety Rule Section 9.143(d)(7)(E)(i-ii) which mandates a 12” schedule 80 riser pipe be used for product transfer at bulk-head applications. The exception allows LPG bulk head transfer applications to utilize the Smart-Hose® Break-Away Adapter as an alternative. The Smart-Hose® Break-Away Adapter is designed with an engineered break point located between two swing check valves. In the event of a pull-away, the Smart-Hose® Break-Away Adapter would automatically shut off at both the bulk-head and tank truck side. This exception improves the safety of product transfers at bulk-head applications.
NOTE: This exception is not limited to a specific location.
Smart-Hose® Technologies has been issued Patent EP 3 011 217 B1 by the European Union for the Break-Away Adapter. (2019) The Adapter is designed with an engineered break-point to protect facilities, tank trucks, rail-cars, loading arms, and the workforce from the hazardous consequences of a pull away incident. The leading-edge design does not restrict product flow and is priced significantly less than conventional break-away apparatus.
Engineering Interns
Smart-Hose® Technologies was delighted to once again moderate summer internships for three engineering students. Kyle Ward, Nick Bromley, and Emily Poprik, all attending Penn State University, were given a hands-on opportunity to experience cutting edge manufacturing operations as a complement to their academic studies.
The interns, supervised by our skilled engineering team, performed product testing, research and data evaluation, inspections, test reports, and analytical analysis for our production processes. As an essential company dedicated to safety, all measures were taken to maintain a safe environment for all.

May 2017: The United States Patent and Trademark Office issued Patent # US 9,657,881 B2 for the Smart-Hose® Break-Away Hose Assembly (LL3-B). The Smart-Hose® Break-Away Hose Assembly provides catastrophic hose failure protection, plus pull-away incident protection through its engineered break-point built into the end fitting.
April 2017: The United States Patent and Trademark Office issued Patent # US 9,625,074 B2 for the Smart-Hose® Break-away Adapter (LL3-BA). The Smart-Hose® Break-Away Adapter is engineered to provide protection from the potentially catastrophic consequences associated with a pull-away incident. The Smart-Hose® Break-Away Adapter (LL3-BA) features full-flow technology and offers the flexibility to be used with Smart-Hose® Assemblies, conventional hose assemblies, or, where no hose attachments are required.
