Best-in-Class
The Smart-Hose® Safety System adds an additional layer of protection inside the hose assembly, the weak-link in your operation. Valves are integrated into each end fitting and a coated cable is positioned into the hose bore which functions as a compression spring. The compression spring is designed to keep the valve system open during normal operating conditions.
If the pressure from the compression spring is cut-off due to a catastrophic hose failure, the integrated valves will instantly discharge and stop product flow. No human intervention is needed for activation. The Smart-Hose® Safety System is designed to withstand the harshest environments and rugged applications for high pressure, cryogenic, and industrial hose assemblies.
The Smart-Hose® Safety System
The Smart-Hose® Safety System functions in the same manner across the entire product line, regardless of size. The design differences are to accommodate hose size, built-in engineered break-away options, and adapter options. The system can be incorporated into hazardous transfer hose assemblies from 1/4″ ID through 8″ ID and break-away technologies in 1 1/4″, 2″ and 3″ ID. Full-flow technology at a price significantly less than conventional break-away apparatus.

ACCIDENTS
DO HAPPEN
Hoses are used as a flexible connection to convey products from one container to another. They are routinely handled by people in a dynamic work environment and subject to a high degree of stress. Therefore, the hose assembly is considered as the weak-link in a transfer operation and may potentially be a serious safety hazard.
Hose assemblies can get damaged from use. Coupling ejections can occur. Pull-away incidents can happen. Relaxed inspection programs can create safety concerns. When a catastrophic hose failure occurs, a few seconds can make the difference between a minor mishap and a major spill. A critical event can endanger your workforce, cause production downtime, property loss, require expensive cleanup, and possibly cause harm to the environment.
Pull-Away Incident
Hose assemblies represent the weak-link in any transfer operation except when a pull-away accident occurs. During a pull-away, a 2” textile braided hose assembly can be subject to and withstand 12,000 to 15,000 lbs. of pull force before it fails. Additional damage to plant piping, bulkheads, tank truck piping, loading arms, and an uncontrolled release of a hazardous material may occur as a result.
The Solution
The Smart-Hose® Safety System provides hose failure protection and break-away protection. When an incident occurs, the Smart-Hose® Safety System will instantly engage and stop product flow without any human intervention.
Coupling Ejection
Any hose assembly is subject to experience a coupling ejection, where the fitting separates from the hose.
Hose Separation
If a hose assembly experiences a complete hose separation during a hazardous chemical transfer operation, an uncontrolled release of the hazardous substance can occur.
Hose Rupture
The Smart-Hose® Safety System will engage provided the cable inside the hose assembly extrudes out of the rupture. The energy of the release is the primary factor in driving out the cable. Only the contents of the hose will be spent.
